Is Chick-Fil-A Now Closed on Saturdays?

Fast Food restaurant chains do not usually close at on any day of the year. Regular restaurants, if they choose to close, usually choose Monday. Sunday is a good day, generally, to stay open while Monday is a slow day. This gives restaurant employees at least one guaranteed day off. Chick-Fil-A closes on Sundays, at the expense of profit, for religious reasons, so that employees can have a day of worship. Recent headlines brought about the rumor that they would now be closed on Saturdays, as well.

In truth, Chick-Fil-A announced that they will be closed on Christmas day, which happens to fall on a Saturday, meaning they will be closed for the Christmas weekend, Saturday and Sunday. This didn’t stop a local Fox news station out of Salt Lake City, KSTU, from using a quite misleading headline: “Chick-Fil-A Closing on Saturday Now, Too… but for a Reason.” This made it seem like Chick-Fil-A would now be closed on Saturdays, in general, as well as Sunday. 1 The chain has no such plans.

In other Chick-Fil-A news, the company, which has received backlash and boycotts due to its donations to anti-LGBTQ groups, says it plans to change its approach to charitable donations. The company’s foundations will take ‘a more focused giving approach.” According to a recent press release, it will be setting aside $9 million for promoting youth education, combating youth homelessness, and fighting hunger. Although the press release did not actually say that the company would no longer donate to anti-LGBTQ groups, other public statements seem to bear this out. However, it should be noted that the company has never explicitly stated that it would end such discriminatory and hateful practices. 2
