There have been many attempts to make the world’s largest pizza, and records have been set by gargantuan pizzas that took dozens of people to make and even more people to eat. But these were one-off attempts to break a record for the largest pizza ever. On the other hand, many pizzerias boast a large pie much larger than the standard 16 inches. Some take it to ridiculous extremes. The question is, which pizza restaurant holds the record for offering the largest pizza that is actually commercially available?
If you want to experience the largest pizza you can actually order and then eat, then, according to Guinness World Records, you’d have to visit one of 20 locations of Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizzeria in the Los Angeles, California area.
Big Mama’s & Papa’s Giant Sicilian pizza is a rectangle that measures 54 inches, or 4 feet 6 inches by 4 feet 6 inches (4’6″x4’6″ or 1.37m by 1.37 m). It is just over 20 square feet of pizza. This monster of a pizza will feed between 50 to 100 people, which, as we all know, means more like 20 to 30.

Of course, we cannot be sure that this is truly the largest pizza offered for sale, but its the most “official” official record we’ve got! The largest pizza isn’t the chain’s only claim to fame. Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria was also the pizza delivered to the 2014 Oscar telecast, which was ordered by host Ellen DeGeneres and shared with members of the audience.
Ellen walked through the audience with the pizza driver, holding the boxes of pizza, and gave slices to folks like Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie. It turns out that a few days later DeGeneres had the delivery driver on her show and gave him the tip of a lifetime: $1000.
Since the Oscars, Big Mama’s and Papa’s has blown up to a huge success, opening many new locations. Also, they are in discussions with BinHendi Enterprises of Dubai about bringing the chain to the Middle East. The first restaurant is slated to open in Dubai.
